A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking

At first it appears as deep science. But a closer look makes you marvel at the ability of Hawking to present topics such as gravity, black holes, the Big Bang, the natire of time, parallel universes and alternate dimensions with the minimal technical jargon in a way that would satisfy the thinking of a knowledge-thirsty man, who is experiencing this dimension in a new light, much different from what the text books on physics would define them as. This book also makes connections to other physicists, history and current social and economic issues and explains how each of us is involved in the universe. Hawking gives his view on matters, shows the facts, presents the most accepted theory, and poses questions to see what the reader thinks in his mind as the answer. This book is a must read for anyone who are still unsatiated with the reasonings of the world and those who are in thirst to understand the nature of existence and journey through this book to marvel at the wonders and pondering author’s view. A person who has constantly wondered about the creation and existence of the universe would immensely enjoy this work. As Hawking says, the reward of understanding the universe may be a glimpse into “the mind of God”.

Rich Dad’s guide to Investing by Robert T.Kiyosaki

Filed under: Books — Tags: — admin @ 9:51 am

Genre : Economics

This is a must read for everyone who would like to be rich with minimal risk and investment. The author-cum-narrator starts with virtually nothing after his tour of duty in Vietnam and having no prior knowledge about investments whatsoever. He draws the difference between his actual dad who is an government employee and his friend’s dad, a rich dad who is a self made millionaire. The book starts with the attitude required to be an investor and goes on to explain the various stages to becoming the Ultimate Investor who earns passively without doing any work and making money work for him. He goes on to explain how 90% of the wealth lie with 10% of the population and how to get into that elite 10%. This book is highly relevant in this age when no employee can be assured of financial safety and the onus is on the person to secure his/her future.

Sidney Sheldon Novels

Filed under: Books — admin @ 6:11 am

Talent is a gift that can be given, and it can be taken away. We have to appreciate that. Stories had always been told about male genies coming out of bottles, but they were usually fat, old men. Never had the genie been a gorgeous woman, but for Sidney Sheldon genies were just women’s. I love reading them. A Sidney Sheldon novel typically contains one or more of these ingredients: shockingly beautiful women, square-jawed heroes and fiendish villains; fame, fortune and villas and plutonium, diamonds and a touch of rape, sodomy, murder and suicide; mysterious accidents and mysterious disappearances; an heiress or two; skeletons in lavishly appointed closets; communists and lawyers; globe-trotting ambassadors, supermodels and very bad dogs; forced marriages and amnesia; naked ambition and nakedness in general; a great deal of vengeance. He writes his books so the reader can’t put them down. He constructs them so when the reader gets to the end of a chapter, he or she has to read just one more chapter. It’s the same technique of the old Saturday afternoon serial: leave the guy hanging on the edge of the cliff at the end of the chapter.

The aftermath

Filed under: Books — admin @ 4:14 am

As a die hard fan of Harry Potter, I’m just as sad as everyone else, to say GOODBYE to my favorite boy wizard. After the excitement, the speculation, the wild theories and finally the book itself, I’m left in the aftermath of the best book series ever written. No more wild theories about Snape’s loyalties, no more crazy guesses about how it all ends, no more waking up at 4 AM to rush to the book store to grab a copy of the latest Harry Potter book and nothing more to look forward to.

Things have gotten quite dull right now. But looking back, this journey has been one of the best experiences of my life and I’m extremely glad that I didn’t miss a moment of it. If I had, I would have regretted it my entire life. So things are fine as I eagerly await J.K.Rowling’s next big master piece.
