Calcium helps keep the weight off

Research suggests that if you don’t have enough calcium in your diet, you are likely to be overweight. An adequate supply appears to make it easier to maintain a healthy weight. The reason has to do with your body’s response to a calcium deficit. When you are low on calcium, your body thinks that you are starving and enters into emergency mode that involves releasing parathyroid hormone from the thyroid glands situated in your neck. This hormone stimulates the bones to release some calcium into the bloodstream. Your kidneys also deliver a dose of a hormone called calcitrol, a form of vitamin D, to increase your ability to absorb calcium. Hence, a high calcium intake suppresses these hormones so your body stores less fat and also breaksit down easily.

Here is a comparison between the importance and essential contribution of water that is missed by most of us with the aerated drinks that we usually substitute for water. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population).

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as 3%. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.Lack of water, the number 1 trigger of daytime fatigue. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.  Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. THE HISTORY OF THE INDIAN FLAG

Filed under: Trivia — Tags: — admin @ 9:13 am

The flag that was first hoisted on August 7, 1906,at the Parsee Bagan Square in Calcutta and was initially called the ‘Saptarishi Flag’. This flag was hoisted at the Congress session in Calcutta during the ‘Home Rule Movement’ associated with Dr. Annie Besant and Lokmanya Tilak. In the year 1921, a young man from Andhra presented this flag to Gandhiji for approval. It was only after Gandhiji’s suggestion that the white strip and
the charkha were added.

Though it was initially not approved by the All India Congress Committee the Indian National Congress formally adopted this flag, which was first hoisted on August 31, 1931.

The National Flag of India was born on July 22, 1947, with Nehruji’s words, “Now I present to you not only the Resolution, but the Flag itself”. This flag was first hoisted at the Council House on August 15, 1947.

The man who designed Tiranga was the versatile genius Lt. Shri Pingali Venkayya.

India’s flag is a tricolor standard, with bands of saffron, white, and dark green.

The saffron represents courage, sacrifice, patriotism, and renunciation.

The green stands for faith, fertility and the land.

The white is in the center, symbolizing the hope for unity and peace.

In the center of the white band is a blue wheel with 24 spokes. This is the Ashoka Chakra (or “Wheel of Law”). The Chakra represents the continuing progress of the nation and the importance of justice in life. It also appears on the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka ” .

Do you really want to know??

Filed under: Trivia — Tags: — admin @ 2:59 pm

There are some things in the world are really fascinating and to know that is really good. But when I come to think of it, I really wouldn’t want to experience any of that. Don’t understand what I’m trying to say here?

In 1998, Mr.Christian Tailleffer set a cycling speed record of 212 km/hr by riding down the face of a glacier on a bicycle. I can barely stand in snow without getting my running nose ahead of me.
Its said that a lion’s tongue is so rough that it could lick the skin off of your body. Would anyone want to prove or disprove that? I didn’t think so..

We know that the largest island in the world is Greenland but i’ve always wondered, It snows there half the time per year then how did the name come? (No offense meant)

The longest name of a place is “TAUMATAWHAKATANGIHANGAOAUAUOTAMETEATURIPUKAKPIKIMAUNG- -AHORONUKUPOKAIWHENUAKITANATAHU” how will you reach there? Ask for directions please.

Leonardo da Vinci could write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time. Could have been useful to us when we write exams right? We could complete the paper in record timings.

An ostrich’s eye is bigger than its brain. So, I finally understand the proportions.

Interesting tid bits

Filed under: Trivia — admin @ 4:30 am

I am amazed by some of the things in life and more so these little details that make them stand out from the rest of the incessant things I know. Did you know that chocolate has the ability to kill dogs? Did you realize that we have so many ways to greet each other when eskimos have a hundreds of words to say snow and none for a hello? Did you know that the infamous master piece of Da Vinci, The Mona Lisa has no eyebrows? Of all the scientific and mathematical definitions, the word “set” has the most number of definition in the English language? The martial arts expert Bruce Lee was infamous for his moves. But did you know that he was so fast that they had to slow down the movie to see his moves? And my favourite is the wonder that your heart stops beating and you close your eyes immediately when you sneeze? So, be thankful if you ever live to tell your tale after you sneeze.
