I stumbled upon a website today that gives great insight on the holodomor of 1932 -33 during which a famine affected most major grain-producing agricultural lands of the regions in the Soviet Union, including Northern Caucasus, Volga Region, South Urals, West Siberia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine. The website reported that the famine was because of the Communist governments of the Soviet Republics had seized grains from the peasants and exported most of their agricultural products to other countries in order to sustain the rapid economic transformation of Industrialization policy designed by Joseph Stalin. The great hunger or “Golodomor” had costs the lives of millions of victims throughout the Soviet Union including 2 million in Central Russia, 1.7 million in Kazhastan, 1.3 million in Ukraine and 1 million in North Caucasus in 1932-1933 totaling about 6-8 million deaths of the peasants according to Scholars. Ukrainian politicians seem to believe that the Holodomor was a planned attack on countries like Ukraine to weaken them.
